I have been traveling for work for the better part of the last 15 years. When I say travel, I’m talking at least 70% of the time I’m on the road. I’ve gone through multiple bags and this Oono 3.5 is probably my favorite. Is it perfect? No, it’s missing a few key features (for me).
First, the numerous pockets, pouches, and places to tuck things are fantastic and fairly well thought out. The one pocket I don’t like is the larger front pocket (the one in my pictures with the books). The area at the bottom of the pocket, below the netting, is kind of wasted space and the items I store there impact the section right behind it. If that pocket stopped just below that netting, I think it would be an improvement.
The remaking sections are well thought out with plenty of storage. I would like to see the neoprene sleeve added to both sides of the back section/laptop area. I carry a laptop and two iPads when I’m on the road. The neoprene would help slide those items in and out. I find that the case on one of my iPads (a rubber of some type) seems to stick to the orange material. Not a huge deal, but a simple change would be a great improvement.
The other item I find wanting is a molle panel. Just a small one, on the front of the water resistant pocket, or vertical on one or both sides of the bag, would be great. I carry items on the outside of my bag (boots/shoes and a hard hat) and having some molle would be a nice place to hang those items. Plus, I can add more pouches as needed (a first aid kit for example).
These are small things that would be an improvement, but don’t let them distract you from the fact that this is a great pack. If you need a good travel bag, get this! Heck, I may even get one for my high school aged son, especially if Oono comes out with a version with the molle.
My only concern is how this pack will stand up to my travel. I’ve only had the back for about 2 months.
